EPL: I was disappointed – Cole hits Man Utd for letting midfielder leave

Former Manchester United star, Andy Cole has hit out at the Red Devils for letting go of their youth product, Angel Gomes.

Cole said he was disappointed that Man United allowed Gomes to leave Old Trafford, describing the midfielder as a very talented player.

Gomes spent time at Man United between 2006 and 2020 before sealing a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.

However, the England international has now emerged as a crucial starter for Lille over the last few seasons.

Gomes has also earned four international caps since his England debut in September.

Speaking with Betfred, Cole was asked about his thoughts on Gomes’ recent rise to fame and his Manchester United exit.

He said (via Metro): “Being very honest, I was disappointed to see Angel Gomes leave [Man United] in the first place.

“He’s a very talented young man and you’re always going to have that type of nonsense where people say that he was too small for the Premier League and all that.

“But he’s moved to France, made a very good career for himself and represented England quite a few times, so fair play to him.”
