After the bodies of his mother and four sisters were discovered in a hotel room on Wednesday, January 1, a young man, believed to be 24 years old, was apprehended and placed under arrest. The man, who officials only identified as Arshad, was arrested after he allegedly confessed to killing his family after a New Year’s Eve argument in Lucknow, India. Authorities said that the man’s 45-year-old mother and his sisters, Aliya, 9, Aqsa, 16, Rehmeen, 18, and Alsiha, 19, are the women who were killed.
Deputy Police Commissioner Raveena Tyagi told ANI, “Today, the bodies of five people were found in a room of Hotel Sharan Jeet.” “The local police reached the spot, and a person named Arshad, around 24 years old, a resident of Agra, was detained.” “During the actual preliminary interrogation, he claimed to have killed his mother and four sisters over a family disagreement. “We’re doing more interrogation,” Tyagi continued.
Babloo Kumar, a joint commissioner of police, told reporters, “Inquiry is also being conducted with nearby hotel staff,” according to the Deccan Herald. Some of the found bodies exhibit evidence of trauma, including one on the neck and another on the wrist. We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the situation based on these marks, witness testimony, and the post-mortem report,” he continued.
The Hindustan Times reports that the family celebrated the New Year by arriving to the hotel on Tuesday, December 30. It further stated that before he killed them, Arshad allegedly gave his family food and beverages that contained an unidentified medication. Following the k!lling of all five women, the accused recorded a video in which he not only displayed the dead bodies but also gave an explanation for the k!llings and accused the neighbors of being responsible for his drastic action.
According to the accused, he took the drastic measure because he felt “helpless” in front of his community and wished to preserve the “honor” of the family’s female members. Arshad, an Agra native, said in a 6.55-minute video that went viral on social media that the bastiwale, or residents of his neighborhood, had perpetrated “unimaginable atrocities” against him and his family in an attempt to take his home.
“My whole family and I am compelled to take this action out of helplessness and despair… My sisters and I have k!lled. I ask that the authorities hold the locals accountable for everything when they have this footage,” the accused stated. He continued by saying that he and his family, including his younger sisters, are compelled to run from one place to another because their house was taken away, and for 15 days they even slept on sidewalks.
The accused further stated, “I have the documents of the house, which my family wanted to donate to a temple and [then] convert to Hinduism.” He identified a few individuals in the video, claiming they were members of the land mafia and traffickers of women, and he called on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take strong action against them. Additionally, he claimed that despite being contacted numerous times, the police never assisted the family.
They intended to sell my sisters in Hyderabad after getting my father and I detained in a fictitious case. He added, “We wanted to save their honor…. I sl!t the throats of my sisters,” while removing the blankets from his sisters’ faces, whose dead bodies lay on the hotel room bed in a pool of blood. It is stated that the accused carried out the act with the help of his father. He dropped his father, Mohammed Badar, off at the Charbagh railway station after committing the crime, and he then went to the police station to confess.
Mohammed Badr, the accused’s father, was also seen in the video clutching the neck of one of his daughters, who he said was awake at the time of the recording. He described in the video how he gave each of the five women drink before strangling and slitting them with swords. The accused further stated that despite being from Badaun and having nationality paperwork from 1947, he was nevertheless labeled as “Bangladeshi” and subjected to ongoing harassment from the locals.

On that property, I want a temple to be constructed, and all of our possessions should be given to the less fortunate,” he continued. The accused who lives in the Tedhi Bagiya neighborhood of Agra was called a “psycho” by his neighbors, who denied the accusations he made.
“Despite living here for more than ten years, neither Muhammad Badr nor his son, Muhammad Arshad, have made friends with anyone in the neighborhood. They used to occasionally cause trouble and had gotten into arguments with practically everyone in the neighborhood,” remarked neighbor Fatima Begum. Senior police personnel, such as Raveena Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central for Lucknow, stated that Arshad and his father, 55-year-old Mohammad Badar, were the main suspects in the crime and had admitted to it.
While the search for Badar continued, DCP Tyagi stated that Mohammad Arshad had been arrested and that more investigation was underway. To find his father, police teams began searching CCTV footage. In a video released by the Press Trust of India, joint commissioner of police Babloo Kumar remarked, “An investigation is underway.” Some of the body’s wounds are open. We’re learning everything and will let you know.”
The police recovered the murder weapons, a blade and a dupatta, based on Arshad’s statements.
