Newly recruited medical personnel in the Ogun State Civil Service have been enjoined to uphold ethics of the profession in the discharge of their duties and see their roles as crucial to the overall well-being of the people.
The personnel comprise medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical record officers, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists and dental officers for the senior cadre, while health attendants, cooks, clerks, messengers and watchmen, were for the junior cadre.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, while speaking during a two-day Orientation/Induction programme organised for the officers with the theme, ‘Facilitating Effective and Efficient Service Delivery’, emphasised the importance of teamwork, dedication and professionalism.
Elemide, represented by the Head, Abeokuta Health Zone and the Chief Medical Director, General Hospital, Odeda, Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki, stated that the orientation exercise would enable the personnel to be acquainted with the rules and regulations guiding Public and Civil Service.
She urged the officers to take into cognizance some of the virtues, such as politeness, obedience, loyalty, intelligence, courage and endurance, as pathways to success, which would guide them through their career in the service.
On his part, a facilitator, Director of Administration and Supplies in the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Tope Balogun pointed out that teamwork was germane in a hospital environment, noting that there should not be rivalry among the medical personnel.
He added that, “Your approach to patients matters a lot. You should be able to talk to the sensibility of your patients and know how to appreciate them.”
Contributing, his counterpart in Hospitals Management Board, Mrs Omotunde Alimson, while speaking on ‘Administrative Process’, admonished the officers to ensure that punctuality remains their watchwords, saying lateness to duties, absconding from work, among others would not be tolerated.
Two of the newly recruited medical personnel who spoke on behalf of others, Dr. Samuel Edung and Miss. Oluwalonimi Oduneye, appreciated the state government and the management of the Board for the orientation, saying it was an eye opener in achieving effective healthcare service delivery.
