The Sokoto State Government has invested N1.66 billion in acquiring essential medications and Mama Kits, which have been distributed to 244 Primary Health Centres across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony on Wednesday at the Government House, Governor Ahmed Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to making healthcare accessible and affordable, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable populations.
He reiterated his commitment to strengthening the health sector, stating, “A healthy society is a wealthy society.”
According to Aliyu, the funds were used to procure critical maternal and child health medications, including anti-helminthic and hematinic drugs, as well as Misoprostol, chlorhexidine gel, and Mama delivery kits.
He also highlighted the continuation of the free healthcare program initiated by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko, which ensures that pregnant women, children, and the elderly receive medical care at no cost.
The Governor credited the program with boosting antenatal care attendance and reducing maternal mortality rates in the state.
However, the governor issued a stern warning to local government officials and healthcare workers against diverting the medical supplies, emphasizing that anyone found guilty of misconduct would face serious repercussions.
He further urged security agencies to monitor the distribution process to guarantee that the supplies reach the intended beneficiaries.
He also called on residents to support government initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility at the grassroots level.
