Gowon calls for prayers to end wanton destruction of lives in Nigeria

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, has called for prayers to the myriad of security challenges bedeviling the nation.

He also prayed that God will touch the heart of the bad eggs in the society to change from their evil ways and become ambassadors of peace.

Gowon made the call while speaking at the opening of a maiden edition of a three-day Interdenominational Unity Christmas Carol and Praise Festival organised by the Plateau State Government.

The event holding at the Ten Commandments Prayer Alter, Dwei, Du district, Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, also had in attendance former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Jerry Ghana, former Minister of Information and ex-governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa State.

While Gowon was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, Obasanjo was the Guest of Honour, respectively.

Gowon thanked the state government for organising the carol, adding that it would further unite the citizenry.

According to him, the state had gone through a myriad of security challenges, hence the carol provides a suitable avenue for the people to commune together.

He commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for the various initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence among citizens.

“I appeal that we use this medium to pray for the end to the needless killings and wanton destruction of lives in Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.

“We should also pray that God will touch the hearts of the bad eggs among us to turn a new leaf; that they will become ambassadors of peace”, he admonished.

In his earlier remarks, Mutfwang said, “This event is part of this administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, guided by shared values rooted in faith and unity.”

The governor said that the state was endowed with human and natural resources, but lacked the unity to move it forward.

Speaking further, he said the carol seeks to unite the citizenry under the banner of God through songs of praise and worship.
