Guardiola tells Man City to sign midfielder from EPL rivals to replace Rodri

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has urged the club to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in January, as a replacement to the injured Rodri, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League champions have been struggling since Rodri tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

City went on a seven-game winless run in all competitions before a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Guardiola’s side are now looking to bring in a defensive pivot in January and have had their eye on a number of players including Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Atalanta’s Ederson.

However, Guardiola has his eyes set on Newcastle’s Guimaraes and is insisting City sign the Brazilian.

City had been interested in Guimaraes in the summer, but eventually decided to bring former captain Ilkay Gundogan back from Barcelona in a free transfer.
