Gumi and I went into forest to meet bandits,some of whom have been killed, why did we do that?— Usman Yusuf says.

 

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Usman Yusuf, has spoken about the efforts he made to help tackle insecurity. Yusuf said that he and Sheikh Gumi risked their lives by going deep into the forests to meet with some of the bandits causing trouble to see how they can bring an end to banditry in the north

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arise TV, Yusuf said that some of the bandits they met have since been killed. He said he and Gumi risked their lives to find solution to insecurity because they could not just sit back while their communities continued to suffer.

In Yusuf’s words: “I and and Sheikh Gumi went into the forest to meet many of these bandits, some of them have been killed. Why did we do that, risk our lives at a time when the government at that time the military and the NSA did not want us involved? We did because it is our land, our people and our responsibility”
