According to NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, during a hearing on Friday, Judge Emeka Nwite declined a verbal bail request from Thomas’s legal team, instructing them to submit a formal application instead. Thomas faces three charges related to cyberbullying and has pleaded not guilty.
The charges arise from a video posted online where Thomas allegedly made threatening comments, including a claim that “Mr. Seyi Tinubu will die this year.” The first count specifically accuses her of transmitting this video, which purportedly instilled fear of death, violence, or bodily harm in Seyi Tinubu, violating Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The second allegation concerns purported threats directed at Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, featured in the same controversial video. The third charge involves remarks made about Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, in which Thomas allegedly claimed that Adejobi’s children would die before his eyes.
Thomas was arrested in Lagos on December 13 due to accusations of cyberbullying. Reports suggest that the activist recorded the contentious video after her detention during a rally commemorating the fourth anniversary of the End SARS movement at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2024.
