How IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Was Arrested in Hotel Under a Fake Identity – DSS Testifies in Court

 

The Department of State Services (DSS) has revealed new details about the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a testimony before the Federal High Court in Abuja, a shielded witness identified as PWAAA explained how Kanu was apprehended on October 14, 2015, at the Golden Tulip Hotel near Lagos International Airport.

According to the witness, the DSS acted on an intelligence tip and deployed an eight-man team to arrest Kanu, who had returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom. The operatives conducted a room-to-room search within the hotel, as Kanu’s name could not be found on the hotel’s manifest. After further investigation, it was discovered that Kanu had used a different name—his native name to secure the hotel room.

Kanu was reportedly staying in the hotel with a woman when the DSS operatives successfully located and arrested him. This arrest marked a significant event in Kanu’s ongoing legal and political battles. In a related development, the court has also granted the request for the shielding of prosecution witnesses in Kanu’s terrorism trial, aiming to protect the identities of those giving evidence against him. Additionally, the court had dismissed a lawsuit filed by Kanu challenging his illegal arrest and transfer from Kenya to Nigeria, citing a lack of legal representation.
