Media tycoon and political analyst Chief Dele Momodu has sparked political debate in an eye-opening interview on Arise Television by asserting that prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have started assembling around former President Muhammadu Buhari at his home in Kaduna.During the interview, which aired on the morning show and gained traction around the 17 to 18-minute mark, Momodu explained that the political tide within the ruling party appears to be shifting. According to him, after the 2023 elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some APC chieftains believed they could sideline Buhari. However, the political calculus seems to have changed.
“Initially, they thought they wouldn’t need Buhari anymore,” Momodu said. “But when they saw members of the coalition gravitating towards him, the APC national chairman, governors, and other top party figures began to follow suit. They’ve realized that Buhari is still a political heavyweight, especially in the North.”
Momodu emphasized that Buhari’s influence remains significant, particularly among the grassroots in northern Nigeria. He added a cautionary note about the North’s political assertiveness.
“Buhari that I know is a principled man. He may personally support Tinubu, but he might not be able to restrain his political foot soldiers,” Momodu said. “One thing I respect about the North is their courage—they are not afraid to confront challenges. If the North decides they don’t want Tinubu, there’s practically nothing that can be done—unless you’re ready to do the unthinkable.”
The comments come amid growing speculation about internal tensions within the APC and concerns over regional alignments ahead of the 2027 elections. Analysts suggest that Buhari’s enduring popularity in the North could become a decisive factor in shaping future political alliances.
