JUST-IN: ₦5 billion car purchase: “Meranda’s action infuriated Obasa, and it is not about stolen money,” according to the source

The new issue roiling the Lagos State House of Assembly after Mojisola Meranda allegedly bought 40 legislators ₦5 billion cars has been explained by an adviser to Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. During the time when Obasa was dismissed as Speaker, Meranda allegedly oversaw the purchase of roughly 39 vehicles for the MPs. In December 2024, the re-elected Speaker authorized ₦7 billion for the same purpose. In an interview with Vanguard, an unnamed Obasa aide explained that Meranda’s action to purchase the cars angered Obasa more than any money that had been taken.

The assistant claims that Obasa is fighting the purchase of the cars without his consent as Speaker and that he has already decided to buy the cars from Dubai after contacting a bidder for the deal. “He (Obasa) had approved the money before his removal,” the assistant stated. However, Meranda went ahead and purchased them, which enraged Obasa.

Obasa gave his approval for the purchase of those cars in December. The cars were supposed to be purchased from Dubai for him, but Meranda took control and put them up for open bidding. “They were no longer purchased in Dubai. That’s the only distinction. Therefore, since it has been spread, it is not as though they stole money. “The purchase or execution was only done (under Meranda),” stated a second House of Assembly source. Obasa has already given his approval. Approval and execution are two different things.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
