A dismissed Nigerian soldier has been arrested in Niger State for allegedly impersonating a serving military officer and defrauding Point-of-Sale (POS) operators of over N470,000 while dressed in full military camouflage.
The suspect, identified as Michael Musa, was apprehended by the Niger State Police Command following a series of reported fraud cases in Bida, Kataeregi and along Mandela Road in Minna.
The arrest followed an official referral from a magistrate court to the Tudun-Wada Division on 27th May, 2025 at about 2:30pm.
According to police in a statement, three victims had initially reported that on 12th May, 2025 at about 10am, “a suspected soldier went to a POS shop around Musa Bello primary school, Bida and deceitfully collected N120,000 from the operator and escaped.”
The suspect allegedly struck again on 23rd May, 2025 at about 9:30am. In a similar operation, “the same suspect dressed in military camouflage went to a POS attendant at Kataeregi, collected N300,000 and equally escaped.”
On 29th May, 2025 at about 4pm, another incident was recorded “at a POS point along Mandela road and N50,000 was taken from the victim.”
Police detectives from the Tudun-Wada Division, aided by technical intelligence, eventually arrested the suspect, Michael Musa, who resides on Mandela Road, Minna.
“During interrogation, the suspect who was arrested in military attire confessed to these incidents, and claimed that he was a soldier, but he was dismissed in 2022 in Benin, Edo State.”
The police disclosed that the case remains under investigation, as “more victims are coming forward to lay similar complaints.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
