Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule has sent his sincere appreciation to former Governor Nyesom Wike for being a crucial part of his political career. “To be the Speaker is not easy; it’s not easy to contest an election and win,” Amaewhule said. “God cannot come down from heaven and vote. God will send people to vote for you, and God used Nyesom Wike to make me a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
Amaewhule recounted how his journey to the Assembly was unexpected, revealing that he never aspired to the position initially. “I never said I wanted to go to the Assembly. The constituency just said, ‘You’re the one to represent us,’ and that was how I went to the Assembly,” he explained. He credited Wike for persuading his constituents to support his candidacy, stating, “It was His Excellency that appealed to our people and said, ‘Allow Martins to go,’ and they listened to him.”
The Speaker further highlighted Wike’s role in his ascension to leadership within the Assembly. “How did I become the Speaker? He spoke to our people; he spoke to my colleagues, ‘Allow him, I think he will do well,’ and they consented to his decision. Here I am today. It’s not by my power.
