Adegeye, who is now married to music legend King Sunny Ade, disclosed that before meeting her husband, she was in a committed relationship with a man who later travelled abroad. At the beginning of the relationship, she made it clear that she would not engage in premarital sex due to her personal convictions and values. Her boyfriend accepted the condition, and the relationship appeared to be moving toward marriage. After her boyfriend travelled abroad, communication between them became difficult, as mobile phones were not common at the time. They relied on handwritten letters to keep in touch. Despite the challenges, Adegeye remained faithful and hopeful, waiting for him to return so they could finalize their wedding plans. Four years later, just as she believed they were getting closer to their dream of marriage, she received a letter from a mutual friend who had also travelled abroad. The letter revealed that her boyfriend had married another woman and already had children with her. She said, “Before I got married to Sunny Ade, I was in a relationship with another man. This boyfriend of mine applied for a visa, and it was approved for him to travel abroad. During this time, we agreed that there would be no intercourse or touch until after marriage. He was supposed to return to Nigeria so we could begin planning our wedding. But, four years after he traveled, I received a letter from my friend, who had also traveled to the same country, informing me that my boyfriend had already impregnated another woman and fathered a child with her.”
