The National Chairman of the National Rescue Mission, NRM, has pleaded with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to obey the order of the Federal High Court to recognize his leadership of the party.
DAILY POST reported earlier on Wednesday that a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered INEC to recognize Njoku’s leadership of NRM, which emerged from the party’s emergency national convention held in Abuja on January 17.
The emergency convention, which was held to fill vacant positions in the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, and correct lopsidedness in its composition, produced Njoku as NRM’s National Chairman.
Since the convention was held, INEC has refused to accept the outcome on the grounds that it did not monitor the exercise.
Addressing the press after the ruling, Njoku said his political problems were coming from one direction—Anambra State.
“Everything about me politically now is always rotating around Anambra, and I don’t know why,” he said.
“In the last six weeks, everything has been coming out from Anambra. I don’t know what my problem is with them. I left APGA for them, and to let them carry on, let us go and build NRM and see which of us is going to be able to touch the heart of the people.
“At the end of the day, they are still not satisfied with what they have. They are poking their nose into NRM to cause confusion left, right, and center, but God has said there will be no confusion in NRM.
“Today, it has been made abundantly clear that everything that came out of that convention, including constitutional amendments, is legal and binding on them.
“We beg INEC to accept the order of mandamus imposed on them by the court. It’s an order of the court, instructing them to accept the convention immediately, including everything that came out of that convention on January 17.
“There are a lot of bye-elections coming up very soon. There’s also an election in Anambra State.
“They should give us an equal playing ground so that we can go into the election and see how we can save ourselves and the party from going backward.
“We want things to start happening. So we’re begging INEC, please, don’t take it personally. This is an order of the court—an order of mandamus—compelling them to recognize us instantly.”*
