According to PUNCH, General Tiani, during an interview, accused the Nigerian government of granting French forces permission to establish a military base in Borno State. The coup leader also accused the country of harbouring and sponsoring the Lakurawa terrorist group in Sokoto State to destabilise Niger Republic.
However, in a statement released by the Minister for Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the federal government denied the allegations, arguing that a country actively fighting against the terrorist group cannot be accused of sponsoring them.
Furthermore, the statement pointed out that General Tiani is trying to divert attention from his administration’s failure by blaming Niger’s neighbouring countries.
The statement partly reads, “Recently, the Nigerian military launched Operation Forest Sanity III, specifically addressing the Lakurawa threat, Code Named Operation Chase Lakurawa Out. How can a government actively fighting the Lakurawa menace now be accused of harbouring the same group within its borders?
