FCT Minister Nyesom Wike explained why he declined to invite former President Olusegun Obasanjo to commission projects during his tenure as Rivers State governor during a Thanksgiving ceremony in the state. Wike explained that Odili once intended to run for president but backed out due to opposition from Obasanjo. This caused Wike to feel it would be disrespectful to invite Obasanjo to Rivers State for such events. “Because of him, I never invited Obasanjo to Rivers State to commission projects. I felt it would humiliate him knowing their history,” Wike stated.
The minister also criticized Odili for recent comments against him and accused him of favoritism. Wike claimed that Odili had chosen his daughter for a commissioner role instead of supporting a relative who had initially been nominated. “I thought as an elder, he would prioritize his nephew, but he gave the position to his daughter instead,” Wike said.
Wike further highlighted the change in their relationship, stating that Odili once admired him greatly but had removed all traces of their connection from his home. “When I was governor, my picture was everywhere in his house. But today, all the pictures have been removed,” Wike remarked.
