Ogun govt distributes relief items to flood, fire victims

Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on Wednesday, distributed relief items to affected victims of the fire and flood disaster that ravaged Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas in 2024, destroying livelihoods.

Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Oluwafunmilayo Efuwape while presenting items to the victims, which included roofing sheets, bags of cement and food items, in Ifo Local Government Area said the government would remain committed to the welfare of its citizenry.

The Commissioner, represented by the Director of Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, Wale Shonde, noted that the initiative was to improve the lives of the victims and compensate them for their losses, restating that Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration would not rest on his oars at making lives more meaningful for the people.

Efuwape urged the executive of the two Local Government Areas to ensure the items were delivered to victims affected by either flood or fire incidents in 2024, stating that the initiative was to establish the government’s commitment towards improving the lives of the victims and to compensate them for their losses while assuring them of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to his campaign promises.

Speaking, Coordinator, South-West zone, National Emergency Management Agency, Kadiri Olanrewaju noted that the relief items were meant to set the victims on a better livelihood, encouraging them to desist from erecting structures in flood-prone areas

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ifo Local Government Area, Kusimo Olalekan, enjoined the people to reciprocate the kind gestures by cooperating with the government at all levels and supporting their policies, urging them to ensure payment of taxes as and when due.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr Rasheed Adeyemi and Mrs Folashade Oricha, expressed gratitude to both the Federal and State Governments for considering them worthy of compensation.
