Professor Ode Ojowu recently talked about his incredible journey from a difficult upbringing to receiving a first-class degree in economics from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in an interview with Daily Trust.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Recalling his early life, Ojowu noted that he had not seen a television until he arrived at ABU and that there were no television sets in Otukpo during his time as a student. With no access to modern distractions, he focused intensively on reading and academics. Aside from working on the farm with his parents, he had little exposure to other pursuits. This singular focus allowed him to excel once he reached ABU.
However, his dedication paid off when he unexpectedly received the Edith Whetham Prize for being the top student in Economics, Political Science, and Sociology during his first year. He was unaware of the prize’s existence until it was announced.
Ojowu said, “I came from a very primitive background, so I never saw a television set until I went to the ABU. There was no television set in Otukpo when I was a student there. Reading was all I had to do. Apart from going to the farm with my parents, I didn’t know anything else.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
