One year after the murder of Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Director of Finance in the Ogun State governor’s office, security operatives are yet to arrest his killers.
DAILY POST reported that the late Oyekanmi was ambushed and shot dead on November 29, 2023, while returning from the bank where he went to withdraw some funds for the state.
The five hooded gunmen reportedly hijacked the bullion van while it was ascending the popular Kuto Bridge in Abeokuta, opened fire on the official, broke the bullion van door with sledge hammers and made away with the money.
Oyekanmi was pronounced dead on getting to the State Hospital, Ijaye.
In an attempt to get his killers, the Governor, Dapo Abiodun, offered a N50 million reward for anyone who had information that could lead to their arrest. Yet, one year after, no arrest has been made.
Recall that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, while briefing newsmen on the activities of the Command in 2023, said investigation into the murder was already at advanced stage.
Meanwhile, in a recent an interview with newsmen, Alamutu expressed regrets that the Command is yet to apprehend the assailants.
Alamutu, who is set to retire on Monday, December 9, 2024, after a 35-year career in the Nigeria Police Force, said no information nor claim was gotten despite the Command’s efforts.
He nonetheless expressed confidence and prayed that his successor would continue from where he stopped in ensuring that justice is served.
“I deeply appreciate the unwavering support and commitment shown by my colleagues, community leaders, and citizens and the media throughout my administration.
“I want to also thank you for your positive support through your reports. The only regret I have in this state is that up till now we have not been able to arrest the person that shot the finance director.
“That’s the only regret I have and it still boils down to what we are saying; no information, no claim. It took us to so many places, it took us to even Ibadan.
“That is the only regret I have, but God knows that my successor will continue from where we stopped because it is important we get the culprit and God will assist my successor,” Alamutu said.
