A socio-political group in Rivers State, We Stand With Sim, has cautioned the Rivers State House of Assembly that the recent Supreme Court judgment should not be interpreted as “a death sentence”.
The group made this statement during its general meeting on March 4, 2025, as contained in a statement signed by its coordinator, Edwin Woko.
Reiterating its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the group acknowledged the setback posed by the ruling but emphasized the need for reconciliation.
It advised Fubara to extend an olive branch to Speaker Martin Amaewhule and the 26 other lawmakers, urging cooperation among all elected legislators.
The statement further called on the Assembly members to prioritize their constitutional duties by focusing on legislative responsibilities and enacting meaningful laws for the benefit of Rivers people.
However, the group warned that if the lawmakers continue with “frivolous and unwarranted” impeachment attempts, they would resist it through legal means.
