According to the grieving father, the tragic incident occurred while he was fixing his car’s tire with his son and other children inside the vehicle. He said officers of the state traffic management authority tried to arrest him despite the tire technician’s instruction to face oncoming traffic so that the repair cable could reach the flat tire. “So immediately I saw them, I started moving. One of them just came to block me. He hit my car. Then I put the car on the vice just to bypass him. I didn’t know they were up to four or five. Four vehicles. Then the other one, the twin vehicle, hit my car again,” he said. A witness explained that after the father managed to escape, they suddenly heard a gunshot. We heard a gunshot. We were thinking maybe they released the bullet to scare people away. So when we moved for maybe 5 seconds, the boy — the deceased — was shouting, ‘They’ve shot me! They’ve shot me!’ So I looked at the back. The back screen was not broken. So we were even thinking that he was scared because all the children were making noise. So we were trying to calm them down. Then I looked back, but I saw him gasping,” he said. The father also revealed that he had been raising his children alone since their mother left seven years ago.“For the past seven years now, their mother abandoned them. It’s only me that is taking care of these children. I decided not to be married because of these kids.” The state government has expressed condolences and called the killing “avoidable,” describing the death of the 14-year-old as a loss no parent should ever have to bear.
