Hakeem Baba Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Tinubu, has said that if he was still in office, he would have advised the President to stop focusing on re-election and concentrate on running the country well. He stated that Tinubu was elected to govern so he should work hard and deliver good results that would convince Nigerians, especially people from the North, Southeast, and South-South, that he deserves a second term.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels TV, Baba Ahmed said he would have told Tinubu that his current record is not impressive and that focusing too early on the 2027 election is a mistake. He said Tinubu is allowing the opposition party, PDP, to deceive him into thinking that another presidential election is just around the corner. He said this is a trap and he would have advised Tinubu to focus on his duty to Nigerians and not get distracted.

In Baba Ahmed’s words: “You are allowing PDP to fool you into thinking that you are going to have an election next year or in a few months time, you are falling into a trap. Focus on governance. That would have been my advice to Tinubu”
