He asserted that “it would be nearly impossible for Tinubu to lose reelection given the caliber of political heavyweights supporting the president’s reelection.”
Lamido questioned the opposition coalition movement’s ability to form an undivided coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, citing prominent politicians James Ibori, Abdullahi Ganduje, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Abdul’aziz Yari as whose cooperation with Tinubu will undermine the opposition and ensure victory for the APC. “When you talk about the possibility of the coalition wrestling power from the ruling party, I think you should also ask yourself a pertinent question, can they agree together?” Lamido said.
“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), the two main opposition platforms, are deeply embroiled in bitter internal strife.” “Is it possible for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to lead a coalition before 2027?” he asked. Thus, Lamido enquired, “Who would fly the ticket? Is it Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar? Is it Yemi Osinbajo or Nasir El-rufai? Is it Bukola Saraki or Rotimi Amaechi? stating that they are all interested in becoming president and are not prepared to give up their goal in favor of someone else.
