Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has publicly criticized the present administration under President Bola Tinubu, expressing his dissatisfaction over unfulfilled promises, according to a report published in the Punch Newspaper on Saturday, March 15. “We all knew about his challenges in Chicago,” El-Rufai stated. “Yet, we believed that if he could replicate the successes he achieved in Lagos, he would do well for Nigeria. We supported him with hope, but now we feel let down.”
El-Rufai’s remarks come as he transitions from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a move he believes is necessary for the opposition to regain strength. He urged fellow opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, to unite under the SDP to present a formidable challenge to the ruling party.
Addressing allegations of betrayal towards Atiku Abubakar, El-Rufai clarified, “I never betrayed Atiku; our paths crossed through work, not politics. I have always been honest about performance issues.” He recalled the political tensions during the Obasanjo-Atiku era, stating, “During their conflicts, those of us around Obasanjo believed he was right.”
El-Rufai concluded with a call for solidarity among opposition figures, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to address the country’s challenges. “What I want is unity among us.
