Tormenting terrorists According to a Friday announcement from Defense Headquarters, Nigeria’s first week of 2025 was bloody, with 109 people murdered and 81 captured by forces sent in for counterterrorism operations. In a press release on Friday, Maj. Gen. “During the week under review, troops neutralized 109 terrorists, arrested 81 suspects, and rescued 43 kidnapped hostages,” Buba stated, providing specifics of the results of the different operations carried out by troops across the country. Buba claims that Operation Hadin Kai forces killed 64 terrorists, detained 28 suspects, and freed 14 victims who had been abducted.
“As part of its ongoing offensive operations against terrorists, the air component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted an air interdiction at Alawa Forest in Shiroro LGA of Niger State on January 3, 2025,” he added. According to the Battle Damage Assessment, a number of terrorists were killed, and their infrastructure and supplies were destroyed. “In total, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops killed 21 terrorists, detained 24 people, and freed five hostages who had been abducted.”
Additionally, Buba reported that troops in the Niger Delta had stopped the theft of crude oil worth ₦618,756,470 and arrested six alleged oil thieves. The Director of Defence Media Operations went on to say: “More than ₦618,756,470 worth of oil theft was prevented by troops in the SS (South-South).” Ten illicit refining facilities, twelve boats, ten crude oil cooking furnaces, and other equipment utilized for illicit activities were also demolished.
While reiterating the military’s dedication to national security, the General asked residents to remain watchful and supportive of security agencies. Assuring that “Troops are continuing their successful operational engagements,” he said.
