The country claims that President Bola Tinubu revealed that he almost dropped out of the 2023 presidential contest due to the economic problems brought on by the naira redesign strategy. During the Iftar, Tinubu recalled a moment when he reconsidered his ambition after a conversation with a close relative. He acknowledged the difficulties encountered in the race, emphasizing the financial strain brought about by the policy. His comments highlighted the impact of the currency redesign on individuals and political activities at the time.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, in a telephone conversation, extended his congratulations to Tinubu on his birthday. Buhari spoke about his long-standing relationship with the president and expressed pride in their bond. He commended Tinubu’s efforts in governance and acknowledged his contributions to the country.

Former military president General Ibrahim Babangida also praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as bold, resilient, and encouraging. Babangida acknowledged the steps taken by the administration so far and noted the significance of the president’s interventions in national matters.

Congratulatory messages also came from various traditional and political leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, state governors, and members of the political class. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, credited Tinubu’s leadership with the military’s recent achievements in combating terrorism and other security challenges.
