Four individuals were shot during a confrontation between supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Wednesday. In confirming the incident, state police command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stated that patrol teams from Elele Division, under the command of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were quickly mobilized to the scene after receiving reliable information about an illegal gathering of suspected criminals at the site. Iringe-Koko claims that while trying to speak to the gathering, an unnamed attacker who was hidden nearby opened fire, injuring several people.
“As of press time, there were four people injured,” she stated. The armed thugs instantly ran away, but one of them was caught and a single-barrel firearm was found on him. For immediate medical assistance, the wounded victims were taken to several Elele hospitals. The fugitive suspects, some of whom have been identified as members of the local vigilante group OSPAC, are currently the subject of a manhunt.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) will receive the apprehended suspect and the recovered firearm for additional investigation. The public is reassured by the Rivers State Police Command that those responsible for this crime would be caught and prosecuted. Additional updates will be shared when they become available.
