Dr. Ngozi Orabueze, a Biafra activist, has asserted that the ongoing murders and instability in the South-East region of Nigeria are caused by European nations’ pursuit of oil resources. Her remarks coincide with a recent agreement that Nigeria signed to build a Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline that would convey billions of cubic meters of gas 4,128 kilometers (2,565 miles) from Nigeria in West Africa to Algeria via Niger and then pump the underground Mediterranean pipeline, known as Transmed, to Italy. Orabueze responded by claiming that the seizure of the region’s mineral deposits was the cause of the militarization and insecurity in Biafraland.
She claims that because Europe was interested in exporting petroleum products from the oil and gas-rich countries, the massacres in the South-East have persisted unchecked. The invasion of the southeast due to oil resources would be fought, she continued. The main cause of Nigeria’s ongoing invasion, murders, and occupation of the United States of Biafra, a sovereign entity, is Europe’s search for oil in Biafraland.
“The Biafran people must protect themselves and their territory from resistance to this invasion and colonization. Nigeria must leave the Biafra country, she asserted. This comes as the Biafra group has persisted in demanding the release of two Biafra agitators: Nnamdi Kanu, who was imprisoned again by the Nigerian government in June 2021, and Simon Ekpa, who was detained by the Finnish government in November of last year.
