Tinubu hosted governors, Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, Service Chiefs, and a few Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the State House on Monday night in Abuja for an Iftar event.
Speaking to his guests, Tinubu emphasized that being a leader is a duty, not a privilege, and urged leaders to act in the best interests of the populace. “I appreciate everyone’s response to my invitation. According to a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, he stated, “You honored it out of respect, not because you don’t have enough to eat or share.” Tinubu emphasized that government initiatives are essential to fulfilling the expectations of the populace, pointing out that indicators of human and economic growth have improved.
The President attributed economic changes to the combined efforts of subnational leaders and the Federal Executive Council (FEC). I remember saying at our first FEC meeting that we would have to put in a lot of effort to get water from a dry well. We continue to put a lot of effort into making sure that there is drinkable water and that we spend money rather than people. Tinubu said, “You, the subnational leaders, are also doing everything in your power to spend money, not the people.”
In order to ensure that history remembers them favorably, he urged leaders to govern with the needs of future generations in mind. Consider yourselves the guides who will lead the nation to the promised land. You can’t exchange the immense honor of being President. “Keep up your current course of action. Additionally, he said, “do more for the people.”
Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the governor of Kwara State and chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), praised Tinubu for his audacious and forceful economic reforms. The leader of the Christian prayers, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, also emphasized the importance of Muslims and Christians fasting together, describing it as a show of solidarity.
Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, admitted that Tinubu’s economic policies were to blame for the steady decline in the cost of products and food. Fagbemi praised the President’s bravery in carrying out difficult but essential decisions and added that the reforms had improved livelihoods. Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila’s chief of staff, as well as ministers and cabinet members are among the dignitaries attending the Iftar feast.
Among the state governors present are Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Muhammad Yahaya of Gombe, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Dr. Alex Otti of Abia State. Others are Mohammed Bago of Niger, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, and Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano.
Key government officials were also present, including the Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu, the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Professor Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammad, the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi.
