“Kings in Yorubaland don’t adhere to a single religion,” the former governor of Osun State said, urging the newly appointed Wazeerul Muslimeen to handle his new position with honesty. No Yoruba monarch may be wholly traditionalist, Christian, or Muslim. Except if the king isn’t really Yoruba.
“All religious rituals must be observed by a Yoruba monarch. You must participate in all events, whether they are Christian festivals, Islamic prayers, or the Egungun festival. The Yoruba people were created in this manner by Almighty God.
“This is how a Yoruba monarch should behave—engaging with all religions, whether Islam, Christianity, or traditional practices,” he added, praising the monarchs present. Following his appointment, Adesina made a statement advocating for the creation of Sharia Courts of Appeal throughout Nigeria in accordance with the constitution.
“In full compliance with Sections 275, 276, and 277 of the constitution, we should advocate for the establishment of Sharia Courts of Appeal in every state that requires them,” he said.
The word “shall” is used in the constitution to specifically allow for this. Sharia panels are in place in some states to settle conflicts between Muslims, but they are not empowered to execute the law.
