Yiaga Africa, a democracy-based non-governmental organization, revealed the information in a report published on Friday during a signing of a peace accord that was attended by a number of candidates and political parties.
The organization found that its Long Term Observers had observed cases of voter incitement in a number of localities, including local government areas in Akure South, Ese-Odo, Ifedore, Irele, Ondo East, Ose, and Owo. These inducements were made during campaign events in these communities, according to Yiaga’s pre-election study.
The investigation explicitly named All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, alleging that they provided prominent community leaders with fertilizers, rice, cassava, and maize. In order to garner support for APC candidates, these local leaders were allegedly tasked with distributing these gifts around the people living in their villages.
