They did, in fact, burn down the secretariat and the Ter Naka palace. The chairman said, “Thugs are taking over it after the young people protested when the bodies of three security guards were taken to Naka after they were killed in Garuwa.” Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue State Police, was not reachable because her phone was not working.

Three Benue Civil Protection Guards officers were allegedly killed by suspected armed herders in the local government’s Garuwa community, which sparked the unrest. Early on Tuesday morning, the corpses of the victims were taken to Naka, sparking demonstrations that became violent.
