In a fiercely contested election held in Port Harcourt on January 8 and overseen by the Electoral Committee led by Senator Ben Collins Ndu, Wechie and other executives emerged successful.
As the statutory leader of the Igbos in Rivers State, Wechie, who is from the Rumueme Clan in the state’s Obio-Akpor council, will collaborate closely with pertinent organizations, agencies, and stakeholders to advance peace and development in the state.
The freshly elected executives also include Mrs. Uju Adekunle as Woman Leader, Maurice Okpara as Secretary, and Dr. Sam Emeka as Vice Chairman. In a statement signed by the organization’s secretary, Maurice Okpara, the group congratulated Senator John Azuta Mbata on his appointment as Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide’s president-general.
Part of the statement said: “This development makes Livingstone Wechie the top Igbo citizen in Rivers state and the statutory leader of all Igbos.
For Rivers State’s peace and development, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Rivers State will collaborate with all pertinent organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.
