Now, nine years later, Bammi Yarma is back in Katsina, a state in northwest Nigeria. Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad Basin, revealed this on Tuesday in a post on X. According to Makama, Bammi Yarma, who is considered to be among the most deadly bandits in the area, was apprehended in 2015 while previous Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari was in office.
The security expert claims that the bandit’s capture in Danmusa, Katsina State, where he was seen carrying weapons on nine camels, was a significant victory in the war against banditry. Authorities at the time broke a vital supply route for bandit operations in the area and confiscated 1,000 livestock that belonged to his network. The Niger Republic’s authorities later found him guilty and put him in jail, Makama added.
According to Makama, intelligence sources have informed him that Bammi Yarma has returned to northwest Nigeria, where he was previously in charge of violent attacks, large-scale kidnappings, and cattle rustling activities. He said that because of the feared bandit’s influence among bandit networks in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states, his reappearance has caused anxiety.
Top bandit leaders have apparently been honoring him by giving him several weaponry, including five to 10 rifles each, according to intelligence sources. His reappearance has the potential to greatly increase violent activity in the Northwest, a region already beset by insecurity. “Mass kidnappings, cattle rustling, and widespread attacks on villages across Sokoto, Katsina, and Zamfara states were among his activities,” Makama said.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
