BREAKING NEWS: Lagos Assembly situation worsens as DSS, police shut away Speaker Meranda

Police and Department of State Security (DSS) agents stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly Monday morning, sealing the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the House clerk. Speaker Meranda arrived at the location at around 11:15 a.m. with her escort. The security operation comes after former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, 2025, filed a lawsuit. Obasa is suing to overturn his dismissal, claiming that the sitting that resulted in his impeachment was unlawful. Obasa argues in his claim that the Assembly convened during recess without the required authorization.
