Acting Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said the warning was required because of the “unfortunate recent surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic hate crimes in Australia.” Ebienfa pointed out that although Australia is renowned for its tolerance and multiculturalism, recent events in some regions have seen antisemitism and Islamophobia.
The warning from the Nigerian government follows a distressing event in the Sydney district of Woollahra, where anti-Israel graffiti was painted on surrounding buildings and a car was set on fire.
