Targeting just those people and cartels that produce and distribute counterfeit medications is impossible due to their cunning. They have agents and partners who use a front company to conceal their illicit activity. Only by temporarily closing the market and moving from building to building to determine the extent of the disease that kills hundreds of thousands of Nigerians every year will the merchants of death selling bogus goods at Onitsha Market be forced to leave.
These cunning people can transport evidence out of the area if you let the market run normally because people will be entering and leaving the building. Even in more advanced democracies, the police and other law enforcement agencies use yellow crime scene tape to temporarily shut off the site of a crime. Controlling crime is more crucial than individual traders’ profits.
I came to the conclusion that Peter Obi is a common dealer and will never be an extraordinary leader because of his actions. Peter Obi’s accusation against President Tinubu for the closure, which he made on camera, is illogical. This is not the first time the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has taken this action.
Peter Obi never held the former president accountable for Dora Alunyili’s actions in Anambra and Abia. Why now point the finger at President Bola Tinubu? It’s also notable to me that Peter Obi never explicitly denounced or called out the phoney drug dealers during his tirade. Does Mr. Obi endorse their endeavors? In any case, this is not shocking. When Peter Obi said that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra are not terrorists and that he meets with them in Onitsha, Nigerians must remember his support for them.
He also falsely claimed last year that President Tinubu disregarded a court decision that demanded Nnamdi Kanu’s release. On December 15, 2023, the Supreme Court unanimously decided that Nnamdi Kanu has a case to answer for treason, despite Peter Obi’s IPOB-inspired falsehoods. The Federal High Court in Abuja then decided on May 20, 2024, that Nnamdi Kanu should not be granted bail.
