Following a stakeholder meeting at RSIEC Headquarters in the state capital of Port Harcourt today, Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the decision was announced. The schedule and rules for the state’s 2025 local government elections were also released by the electoral umpire. Leaders of registered political parties, traditional leaders, security forces, religious organizations, media representatives, professional associations, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and members of the general public are among the meeting’s key stakeholders.
This came after the October 2024 Rivers State Local Government (LG) election was declared invalid by the Supreme Court. Recall that after closely examining the Supreme Court’s Certified True Copy (CTC), Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State promised the residents of the oil-rich state that his administration will carry out the ruling. Fubara said he spoke with his legal team last Sunday in a state broadcast, and they anticipate receiving the CTC by Friday, March 7, 2025.
