The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), located in Ijagun, Ogun State, has been designated as a Federal University by the Federal Government. TASUED is Nigeria’s first specialized university of education, having been founded by the Ogun State Government in 2005. Being a federal institution, TASUED would be the first university in the Ogun East senatorial district to be owned by the federal government. With a strong academic program and infrastructure, the changeover calls for little federal funding.
Tinubu authorized the adoption on Friday and commended the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over the school, which is one of the state’s top educational assets, according to a statement released by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Sunday.
“The Federal Government has the chance to honor Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who initiated the groundbreaking free education program in Western Nigeria, and Dr. Tai Solarin, who dedicated the majority of his life to teaching our children and instilling in them lessons of leadership and patriotism at Mayflower School in Ikenne,” Tinubu stated. “It is also in honor of the Awujale of Ijebuland, who played a crucial role in preventing the university’s closure in 2012, just seven years after its establishment,” he continued.
Celebrated leaders from Ogun State’s Eastern Senatorial District, which includes Ijebu and Remo, were the late sage Chief Awolowo and Solarin. The President emphasized that the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening teacher education and raising the standard of instruction at all educational levels is demonstrated by TASUED’s transformation into a Federal University of Education. The Federal Government now has control over three education universities, including Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo State and Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri, Imo State, thanks to TASUED’s new status.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
