When Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, it was clear that the two leaders were still embroiled in a political dispute. Despite standing for a group photo with the President, Wike and Fubara refrained from interacting or exchanging pleasantries, according to a source who attended the meeting and talked to Vanguard. They didn’t say hello to the president, even though they both posed for a picture with him. No embrace. Don’t say hello. Everyone immediately headed to the President’s meeting, and then we all departed,” the insider revealed.
After the group shot, Wike reportedly left the Villa right away to check and commission work. The source claims that the purpose of the conference was solely to discuss business matters pertaining to Ogoniland’s growth and economy.
Wike is required to be present whenever the President meets with a state delegation because he is a minister from Rivers. The purpose of the conference was not to discuss the political turmoil in Rivers. The insider underlined that it was solely a commercial parley. In response to a question on whether President Tinubu tried to mediate between the two leaders, the source stated that no such conversation took place during the meeting.
Magnus (Abe) was the only person the president spoke to. He informed Magnus that he hadn’t seen him in a while, to which Magnus responded that he had been out with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike then acknowledged that Magnus had been collaborating with him, the person continued. The Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF) has started working to mediate a settlement between the two powerful political parties.
To mediate the dispute, the organization has formed a peace committee led by Obong Victor Attah, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State. “They have yet another fantastic chance to put an end to their conflict and make amends so that Rivers State can move on.
