Following their official return to work on Wednesday, the “reinstated” local government chairmen in Osun State have ordered the immediate freezing of many council accounts. Governor Ademola Adeleke and other council resource managers were cautioned by the council chairs to avoid using public funds, stating that “any form of illegal transaction will have consequences.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Since there isn’t a vacancy in any of the 30 councils for them to fill, the reinstated chairmen and council members advised the state government and the chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to postpone the scheduled local government poll. This is as they were grieving the sudden passing of party members, especially Hon. Remi Abass, the chairman of the Irewole Local Government, who was brutally murdered on Monday by alleged political assailants.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ilerioluwa Campaign Office in Osogbo, Hon. Abiodun Idowu, Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his excellent leadership and unwavering adherence to the law. He also praised the state’s security agencies for their high level of professionalism and dedication. With the words, “having returned to office, we want to reaffirm our commitment to serving our people more and our social contract to create job and wealth for the teeming youth of the state will be implemented without compromise,” Hon. Idowu, the chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, or ALGON, reassured them of their readiness to practice good governance at the grassroots level.
“All of our chairmen will put forth great effort to establish value chains in the agricultural sector in order to guarantee food security in our state.” In order to provide farmers around the state a fresh lease of life, we will focus on automated farming. We are conscious of the lack of health experts in all of our health centers and institutions, as well as the teacher shortage in our schools. We promise to address this shortfall as soon as possible.As an association, we have decided to reintegrate the more than 2000 health workers and 1500 teachers who were fired when the Office of Governor Ademola Adeleke took over from the APC Government of HE Adegboyega Oyetola.
We maintain that getting them back on board to provide vital services to the state’s citizens won’t stop or impede the advancement of state governance because their pay and benefits are statutorily deducted from local government allocation. We are aware that the people are the reason government exists, and as local government leaders, it is our duty to put the welfare and well-being of the populace first. Idowu reiterated that the affected staff would be informed in due course of the procedures for the reabsorption of the 1,500 teachers and more than 2,000 health personnel.
According to him, the state administration and the council chairmen and council members were prepared to collaborate in order to jointly guarantee the benefits of democracy for the state’s citizens. Idowu urged the members of the various councils to continue supporting their chairmen and council members when they returned to work, promising them that they would get right into things. As he urged the security agencies to persist in upholding law and order in the state, he bemoaned the unnecessary situation that followed the restart on Monday.
We lost over seven members of our party and supporters in the carnage that occurred on Monday and the days that followed, and many more were injured to varied degrees. Hon. Aderemi Abass, a well-known member of our Association, was one among the victims. We ask God to pardon his transgressions, accept his soul, and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss of their patriotic Nigerian and breadwinner.
In Isokan, they killed our Ward 2 Chairman while ten others were injured. For the record, we lost two of our members in Irewole Local Government, seven individuals were critically hurt in Ilesa West, and three members—including the security personnel—were wounded. In a same vein, two of our party members were thought to be dead in Iwo and eight were gravely hurt in Ile-Ife. Eight people were officially declared dead, and 49 others were hospitalized after suffering severe injuries.
“We respectfully request that the Nigerian Police Force, Directorate of State Security, and other security agencies find the individuals responsible for the murders of Hon. Remi Abass and other APC members who were brutally attacked and killed by thugs on Monday,” Idowu said. We urge security to invite Senate Deputy Minority Leader Akogun Lere Oyewumi and Hon. Abiola Ibrahim Inaolaji, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing the Isokan/Irewole State Constituency, for questioning.
Credible information has been found that connects the two PDP politicians to Hon. Remi Abass’s murder. Lere Oyewumi, the senator, has a history of instigating his party supporters against opposition members. He has even been implicated in the 2023 kidnapping and murder of Saheed Oyegunju, a Ward Treasurer of our Party in Ikire, who was assassinated by thugs wearing PDP decorations. It is imperative that the police take all legal measures to look into the rumors that associate Lere Oyewumi with political thuggery and notoriety in Irewole and the surrounding areas.
Additionally, we have solid evidence that the murderers of Hon. Remi Abass left a residence owned by Hon. Inaolaji. To find the people responsible for the wanton murder of Hon. Remi Abass, the police and other security forces must put in a lot of effort, Idowu said.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
