Following a recent Supreme Court decision that mandated the suspension of federal funding to Rivers State until the budget is properly presented and approved, the budget was set to be presented to the State Assembly, which is chaired by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, on Wednesday.
However, upon arriving at the Assembly complex, Governor Fubara was locked out, preventing him from accessing the grounds. It is assumed that action is due to the lack of official communication between the governor and the Assembly. Fubara said that his attempt to deliver the budget was in the best interests of the people of Rivers State while addressing reporters outside the building. Prior to choosing to go before the Assembly in person, he added, he had written to the Speaker and attempted to contact him via telephone.
Since December 13, 2023, when the state administration destroyed the Assembly Complex, the members, who are devoted to former Governor Nyesom Wike, have been meeting at the Legislative Quarters in Port Harcourt.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
