The rector stated a few minutes ago that the college’s administration, faculty, and students have been fasting and praying for the institution to become a university. You have somewhat ambushed me, but I must inform you that President Bola Tinubu wasted little time in approving when I brought up the matter with him. All I have to do is wait for the relevant quarters to send me the memo and any other required procedures.
With more than 200 employees who have earned doctorates in a variety of subjects, this institution is a legacy that is more than prepared to become a university. The president, who values education and cares about providing the greatest education possible to the young people who will be our future leaders, deserves all the praise for this, he said.
Alausa expressed satisfaction with the management’s maintenance culture, which has kept the majority of the facilities in good condition despite their age, while touring the campus to launch and examine a few projects. He went on to say, “I applaud you for striving for excellence, and I can guarantee you that the federal government would support you. We need innovation and investments in technology for development.”
He emphasized further that ending the Japa Syndrome is one of the reasons the Tinubu administration is emphasizing technical and vocational education and incorporating entrepreneurship into it. “We are not treating the problems of robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, and others lightly. We are aware that if our young people are skilled in certain areas, they can work for companies throughout the globe while still being in Nigeria and earning foreign currency. That will help stop this Japanese phenomenon where individuals go overseas to perform low-paying employment,” he said.
He pointed out that Nigeria had abandoned technical and vocational education for more than thirty years in favor of creating graduates who were constantly looking for white-collar jobs, but that this was no longer the case. “We are currently implementing TVET as a fundamental component of our educational system, as has been the focus in Europe and other regions. He believed that we needed education that would support technological advancements and manufacturing, as well as create a strong private sector that would propel societal improvement.
