In a furious altercation, former Niger Delta insurgent commander Asari Dokubo openly denounced Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for allegedly deploying police officers to shoot and use tear gas on unarmed women. Asari Dokubo, visibly outraged accused Wike of orchestrating the attack in an attempt to lure him into a confrontation.
“You are making mouth. You are shooting Teargas at Unarmed Women. You are shooting guns at Unarmed Women. All because you wanted to lure me. Without the police, why didn’t you confront her? Was it the job of the police to shoot Teargas on Unarmed Women? Where in any civilized society is that done?” he said.
The altercation is believed to have been linked to the ongoing political tension in Rivers State, where Wike, a former governor has been at the center of political power struggles.
Asari Dokubo, a vocal critic of Wike, accused him of abusing state power and using security forces to suppress opposition.
The use of teargas and gunfire on unarmed civilians has drawn criticism from various quarters with human rights activists condemning the incident as a violation of fundamental rights.
Many have called for an independent investigation into the actions of the police.
As of now, Wike has not responded to Asari Dokubo’s accusations.
