Impeachment: Following Pro-Wike Lawmakers’ Notice, Governor Fubara Breaks Silence and Issues a Warning

The government made this statement on Monday in Port Harcourt, this came after the assembly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, of gross misconduct

Speaking to reporters, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said the assembly’s actions were making it impossible to carry out the court’s decision

He said the crisis began after an attempt to remove Governor Fubara from office on October 30, 2023, since then, political tensions have continued to rise

Johnson stressed that Governor Fubara remains committed to peace and stated that the governor wants to focus on the people’s needs instead of political crisis

The Supreme Court gave a ruling on February 28, 2025, addressing major issues in the state

These included the withholding of the state’s federal revenue, the cancellation of local government elections held on October 5, 2024, and the need to present the 2025 budget again

Johnson pointed out that some parts of the ruling were unexpected and mentioned that the court’s comments on the issue of political defections, which were not officially raised in the case

Despite this, he assured that Governor Fubara would continue working to implement the judgment
