According to VANGUARD, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has issued a warning that Nigeria’s economy will suffer greatly if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is removed from office.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
This warning came after the blockade of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, which prevented Governor Fubara from presenting the 2025 budget as ordered by the Supreme Court.
The INC also criticized Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, stating that he should not involve the Ikwerre and Ijaw ethnic groups in political crisis.
The group believes that the lawmakers involved in the crisis are not working for the people of Rivers State but are instead following Wike’s personal interests.
INC President Professor Benjamin Okaba argued that the lawmakers are acting this way because Wike financed their election and had personally selected them.
He said their actions prove that they are more focused on political loyalty than the welfare of Rivers residents.
He also condemned the blockade of the Assembly Complex and dismissed claims that Governor Fubara is weak.
According to him, the governor is simply following the rule of law and respecting the Supreme Court’s decision.
The INC leader pointed out contradictions in the lawmakers’ actions.
He noted that they had given the governor strict deadlines to present the budget while also demanding that he sack 19 commissioners.
He questioned how the budget could be prepared if the Finance Commissioner and other key officials were removed.
Professor Okaba warned that any attempt to impeach Governor Fubara unfairly would be met with strong resistance.
He insisted that such an action would have serious consequences for the entire country and stated that this was not a threat but a reality.
“These lawmakers are acting this way because Wike personally financed their election. He handpicked them, and he said so publicly. That is why I am not surprised by their behavior.”
“If they go ahead and impeach Sim Fubara recklessly, we will resist it. The consequences will be too heavy for the entire country to bear. This is not a threat, it is a reality,” he said.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
