At around two in the morning on Friday, alleged ritualists decapitated fashion designer Lawrence Edobor in Evbuotubu, Benin City. According to a local who asked to remain anonymous, the deceased was a well-known clothes designer who had a store in Eweka, Evbuotubu. “From what I’ve heard, the deceased attended a funeral ceremony earlier that night,” the resident stated. Around two in the morning, a group of people he thought might be ritualists ambushed him as he was making his way home. His head was severed from his body when they attacked and killed him.
The decapitated body was then left on the road while the suspects left the scene. A group from the Edo State Security Corps caught them as they were attempting to flee, and one of the suspects was apprehended with the head. “The suspect abandoned the head during questioning and attempted to flee once more, but was ultimately caught.”
In a statement released on Saturday, Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the event and the arrest of Uwadiae Airebiuwa, a 27-year-old suspect from Igbinudu Street in the Evbuotubu Quarters. He mentioned that attempts were underway to apprehend the gang’s fugitives.
He stated: “On July 3, 2025, at around three o’clock in the morning, Evbuotubu Division agents and vigilante members were patrolling the area when they stopped and detained 27-year-old Uwadiae Airebiuwa of Igbinudu Street, Evbuotubu Quarters, who was in possession of a fresh human head in a polythene bag.” During questioning, the suspect led them to a man’s decapitated body on the street close to Eweka Shopping Plaza.
“While the investigation is ongoing, the deceased, who was later identified by a family member as Edobor Lawrence of 1 Osagie Street, Evbuotubu Quarters, was taken to the hospital for preservation.” Betty Otimenyin, the Commissioner of Police, expressed her condolences to the deceased’s family and the public, promising that the command will not rest until all those responsible for the horrible act were held accountable.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
