The assertions were characterized by the party as “mere rumors and a figment of the peddlers’ imaginations.” The ZLP National Publicity Secretary, Khalid Arewa, explained in a statement issued Sunday evening in Abuja that the claims were untrue and that the party had not made any such decision. The explanation comes after rumors circulated that the party had given Obi a free ticket to the 2027 elections.
In the general election of 2023, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, garnered a lot of support among young Nigerians. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the election, and he finished as the second runner-up. Obi is reportedly trying to build an alliance with other opposition parties in order to improve his prospects of winning the 2027 election.
The ZLP has, however, disassociated itself from any support for Obi and from any conversations about the upcoming election campaign. “ZLP would like to address a misleading publication that is circulating on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), which falsely attributes to our party an offer of a free ticket to Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election,” the party said in its statement.

As we have no agreements with anybody on any matter pertaining to false claims, our party’s leadership and decision-making procedures are directed by our Constitution, principles, and values, which do not permit such baseless and frivolous claims. Once more, the aforementioned publication is a huge lie straight out of hell because the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has not yet begun to negotiate with any individuals or organizations on the 2027 presidential elections.
