Gunmen kidnapped Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, the national president of the Afenifere National Youth Council, and demanded immediate assistance, threatening to kill him if a N100 million ransom is not paid by 3 p.m. today (Monday). In a video that SaharaReporters was able to obtain, Ojajuni is seen pleading with the public for financial support to gain his release while the kidnapper points an AK-47 at his chest.
Ojajuni, who was clearly distraught and fatigued, urged Nigerians to help save his life by giving everything they could. “Please, Nigerians, assist me! In the video, he begged, “Your donation—N100,000, N50,000, or N1,000,000—can go a long way in saving my life.” “Prince Eniola Ojajuni is my name. May you be blessed. Please help me share this video, Aderohunmu.
According to earlier reports from SaharaReporters, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere National Youth Council, was abducted and given a 48-hour ultimatum by his captors, who threatened to kill him if a ransom of N100 million was not paid.
The family and the kidnappers are heard negotiating tensely in a voice tape that SaharaReporters was able to get. Speaking in panic, Prince Ojajuni claimed that the kidnappers had already shot him in the buttock and had demanded N100 million. One of the family members talked to the kidnappers throughout the call, and they begged for a lower ransom price.
“What can you do for us, please? “How do we pay?” the relative inquired. “We don’t have that kind of money,” the family member said, struggling to negotiate. We have a tiny plot of family land in the hamlet that we intend to sell. We’ll see how much we can raise if we sell it. How can we provide the funds? Where are we supposed to pay? According to the kidnapper, “You must pay in cash.”
The family also begged, “Will you please take N10 million? We are only able to raise that. In response, the kidnapper said, “God forbid a bad thing.” I promise Almighty God that you won’t hear from me ever again if you keep spouting gibberish. My supervisor last offered me N100 million, but please let me know if you can offer me more.
The kidnappers threatened to hurt Prince Ojajuni even more when the family persisted in their pleas. Prince Ojajuni conversed with an elderly relative in another exchange.
He clarified, “I even wanted to fly on Sunday when the network problems began. I decided against going, though, and changed my flight for Monday at 6:15 a.m. But MTN and GTB began experiencing network issues. The Director-General called to let me know they were expecting me at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, where I had a meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. I therefore moved out. They fired at us from between Ondo and Kabba. I’m bleeding right now.
Prince Ojajuni said, “No, they just shot at us,” in response to the question of whether the kidnappers stopped the route. They’re asking for N100 million, and I’m bleeding.” “Where are we going to get that kind of money?” a family member said. Can I talk to the boss? “What can you do for us, sir?” the family member begged. Since the day before yesterday, I have been phoning his number. I’m not feeling well, and I have no idea what’s going on. He has already explained everything to me, but where will we find that sum in the Nigerian economy? He’s broke. He has nothing. Reduce the quantity, please.
We urge the Nigerian government to take immediate action to ensure Prince Ojajuni’s safe release. Prince Ojajuni is a well-known figure in Nigeria and a strong advocate for youth empowerment and development. Additionally, we urge anyone with knowledge that could save his life to disclose it.
In response, the abduction leader said, “Pay close attention if he has nothing. You don’t have to search for money because of me. However, I still have bullets if you don’t. I’ve already shot him once, and I can shoot him three times.” “Please, for heaven’s sake, don’t hurt him,” the family pleaded. How can we lower the quantity? In a startling admission, the kidnapper stated that they had been paid N50 million to kidnap and murder Ojajuni.
“I’ll reveal the secret to you. We were given N50 million by someone to abduct and murder him. For them to gather, we were told to cut off his head, his manhood, and his eyes. Forget about this dude if you don’t pay. Prince Ojajuni begged his family to seek assistance from Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju during the frantic chat. “I have been given a 48-hour deadline by them. They will kill me if I don’t pay the ransom. “This is my final opportunity,” Ojajuni declared.
SaharaReporters previously reported on the kidnapping of Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere National Youths Council. In a communiqué, the gang said that Ojajuni had been kidnapped on Monday, February 17, 2025. The Afenifere National Youths Council’s National Secretary, Abiodun Aderohunmu, stated that the abductors had asked for a N100 million ransom.
“The Afenifere National Youths Council is extremely saddened to announce that Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, its National President, was kidnapped in Abuja, Nigeria,” he said. “A ransom of N100,000,000 has been requested by the kidnappers for the regrettable occurrence that happened yesterday. Prince Ojajuni lost a bullet wound to his buttock during the abduction. We implore the kidnappers to free him without causing him any harm, as we are really worried about his safety and wellbeing.
“The Afenifere National Youths Council will keep up its tireless efforts to promote the safety and security of all Nigerians and to ensure Prince Ojajuni’s safe return.” The abduction took place on February 17.
